I photographed Jason on a large format camera with a slow shutter speed, wanting to animate the motion of his fantastic dreadlocks. Jason was my landlord for a little over a year in a studio building in West Oakland, an old shipping supply warehouse filled with artists: painters, sculptors, photographers, ceramicists, print-makers, you name it. The studio was palatial: it had a roll-up door that gave out onto a 'backyard’: a truck-stop and a fennel forest---plenty of room for dancing.
The images in this sequence are printed as a digital montage (10 x 64") and as individual silver prints (8 x 10").
